A lot of forest wagon for your money
Martin Engström, also known as Martin i Holma, works as a farmer and runs a forest and dairy farm with his family in northern Skåne. He has also had forestry work as an extra job for many years, both in terms of driving and manual cutting, but has also driven a lot at home. Every year he drives out a total of about 2000 m3 of timber. We spoke to Martin to find out more about what he thinks of his forestry trailer from Vreten and how it helps him in his work.
Which forestry wagon do you have from Vreten?
- Now I have a 14 ton Trailer with drift and for that I use the 680 crane. Previously I have also had the 10 ton trailer Vreten 1000.
How does the forestry trailer help you during your working days?
- It saves me a huge amount of work and time. I usually start the day by seeing if it is suitable to drive. If it's frozen in the morning, I can shovel while it's frozen, and chop in the afternoon when it's thawing and wearing less. This saves me a lot of rutting and soil compaction. With the forestry trailer, I also have a lot of freedom in my work because the trailer has a large load volume, just like a real forwarder. In addition, the forestry trailer is strong and thanks to the drive it moves well and is very stable. I have a stony and rough terrain and then the drift helps a lot.
What are the benefits of the forestry trailer?
- I am very fond of the center frame of the trailer, it is much like a bent box and has the same principle as a forwarder. On many other Trailers , it is instead a center tube, which is what makes it stand out from the crowd. The forest trailer is also made of Strenx high-strength structural steel from SSAB, which makes it strong and that it can handle heavy goods. Above all, it can withstand use and I do not have to be as careful, I can admit that it has been given color.
Have you added any optional extras to the trailer?
- It is a bit custom made with extra options that I wanted. Among other things, I have had the drawbar raised, ie the drawbar. Then I did not want hoses upwards on the pistons of the crane to avoid them getting stuck in branches. The drive is also optional, if you want it front or rear, or on all four wheels. I was also helped to move the bogie forward so that it would track better with the tractor. The equipment also includes mini levers that make it very easy to operate the crane.
What was the process of getting it custom-built?
- Vreten was very accommodating. I started by explaining what I wanted and then Vreten made a drawing which they showed me. As soon as I approved the drawing, they started production. It was spot on.
What would you say to someone thinking of buying a Vreten forestry trailer?
- I can only recommend Vreten. It's a lot of forest for the money.
